Just today my giant Doberman did the funniest thing with "his" Ladies! For some reason the girls really like his dog food, so they were eating it as usual today since they free range. He was getting tired of them pecking his lips and eating his food, so he picked up his dog bowl and brought it some else on the driveway. And of course the ladies followed him and continued eating it. Then again he moved it but this time under the trampoline to his so called idea of "hiding". They found him and started chompin' down on some more dog food. He moved it yet AGAIN far away from the trampoline and this time the girls gave up on following him!!!! He finally got to eat in peace!!!!!!

But he was SO patient with his hens! It was the most adorable thing I had ever seen. Does anybody have any similar stories???

That's a cute and funny story. You should feel thankful and proud to have such a good dog; the farm next to me has three Dobermans, one is a pup but the parents are HUGE, and they're loose all the time running up and down the road chasing down and killing people's chickens!

I am actually scared of them, they seem unpredictable to me; these neighbors' dogs I mean. Anyway, as a result, I quickly realized I wouldn't be able to free range my chickens, so I have them in a secure run. I wish I could let them loose to roam, but too much danger. Not just the dogs, but other predators here as well. Anyway, cute story, wish you had a video of it!!

Thank you for the cute story but next time we need pictures. I still miss my doberman we had to put her to sleep 10 years ago due to cancer she was 14 I loved her so much and one day will get another doberman. The funny thing was I had been attacked by a doberman when I was a child luckily not hurt bad scared more then anything, but I hated dobermans they scared me so bad. One day a dog showed up at my DH work they tried to find her owner for a week she had a hurt hip and they were going to take her to the pound I told DH to bring her home I would nurse her back to health get her shots and find her a home I did all that and she was the best dog I ever had. She protect myself and my children. I just never thought I would own a doberman. but she taught me never judge a dog by a breed again. Thanks for the great story and and some great memories of my Sadie.

Hahaha!

A similar thing happened with my dog on a few occasions. Once when I have her a steak bone, my hens took turns distracting her and tearing pieces of meat off. She finally had enough, picked up her bone and ran with all of my hens running full out, wings flapping, behind her. I finally had to put them back in their coop - they just wouldn't let up.

The other time was when my dog snatched an ear of corn from our garden... the hens slowly closed in. That I actually have pictures of!

^^^ Yes, my Polish pullet did actually reach into my dog's mouth and start pecking at the corn... All that my dog did was tense an brace - no snap, not even a growl... I am well aware she is a chicken Saint.

Oh MY goodness! Photos 4 and 5 are simply fantastic!! I can hear the soft growl that must have come with that curled lip... just a complaint, of course! Your dog IS a saint!

These are all such great stories!! I love stories of different animals interacting - nicely of course. Love the pictures too.
