Here is my recipe for home cooked horsie treats. It is economical and the horses just love them!

    1/3 cup of shortning
    1 & 3/4 c all purpose flour
    1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    1 egg
    3 tblsp water
    1 tsp baking powder
    1/4 tsp baking soda
    2 cups rolled oats

Beat shortning and sugar together. Add about half flour, egg, water, baking soda and baking powder and blend well til incorperated. Add remainder of flour and mix well. if the dough is too stiff add water by the tsp until like a stiff cake batter. Then add oats and mix well. Dough will be stiff after adding oats.
Drop onto ungreased cookie sheet , flatten with a fork into a cookie shape and bake at 375

You can also add shreaded carrot or applesauce to this recipe and the horses love it!
