I have been wondering what others do to protect their property/family in case of a home invasion.
I have been reading books, web pages, and watching videos.I have done some things, but I want to do more. I want to be more ready if the unthinkable happens.
Some things I have come across are:
Follow instinct-better safe than sorry
Solid doors,no windows
Better lock
Kick plate with longer screws
Smaller windows that are higher up
Covering on windows to reduce breakage
Fencing with gates
Gun-shot gun,handgun,rifle
Dogs
Self defense classes
Teaching kids NEVER to open the door just because someone rang/knocked
Reminding yourself never to open the door just because someone rang/knocked
Peep hole for door-chains are useless
A secure room in the house(solid doors and kick plates that can not be kicked in)
A whole house security system(brinks?)
Bat,golf club,mace,knife in various locations
Cell phone on hand in case lines are cut
Keep windows and doors locked at all times.
Locks on garage and/or shed
Something on hand to use as a weapon while in yard(we had a loose dog attack one time)
Alarms on windows
Security cameras
Driveway alarm
Outdoor security lights
While out:
If you notice a car follwing your turns drive around the block to lose them rather than turning into your drive
I know there are more.I have done some of the things listed. What have you done?I find that the more things I do the less I am feeling fearful.
