Hi, this weekend I will be getting 4, 2 year old , buff orp hens. I was wondering how often they go broody and how long they lay eggs. All my hens never want to go broody so I wanted at least one hen that will maybe next spring.

They are not known to be a very broody breed...Not saying they can not go broody...Each hen in every breed is different...You might end up with a broody hen? My friend has raised them for twelve years..She only had a few go broody on her. She incubated her eggs..

    Cheers!

Ive heard people say most of their orpingtons go broody and others say none have ever so it really just depends on the bird. Ive heard that they often go broody though and are (generally) good mothers!
