How can I tell if an egg is fertilized?

I've had ducks for about 5 years. Lots of fun and laughs. We'll for the first time ever one of my girls have been wondering off. After following her I found a nest at the time there was 5 eggs. All my ducks are free range during the day. All my ducks are female. If these eggs she's nesting are fertilized then how can I tell?

If you have all female ducks then the eggs will not be fertile.

If they do not have access to a drake, they are not fertilized.

Yes I understand that. But I'm saying if she came across a drake unknown to me. Can't you visually check them? Holding them up to a light?

Yes, you could candle them. You need a good strong flashlight and a dark room. Depending on how old the eggs are you should be able to see a dark spot in the eggs if there is growth, and a pale glow throughout if there is not.
