Saturday was Free Chick Day at Coastal Farm and Ranch.

5 free pullets when you buy 25lbs of chick starter. Not to mention pretty good sales on all chicken-y stuff.

As I am patiently awaiting the arrival of my first batch of chicks, I waited until after lunch to venture into Coastal, thinking they'd be all out of the "special" pullets.
Nope. Of the 500 chicks they had about 20 left.

The two employees in charge of the chicks were obviously tired of manning the free chick tub. When I asked for my set, she asked if I wanted any extras. Sure, why not. (how could I say no?)

They scooped up 8 of the babies and would have kept scooping, had I not stopped them.

When I asked what breed they were, I was told that all they had left were leghorns, so I assume that's what these guys are.

A couple of them have much darker/brighter yellow patches on their shoulders and tummy. Just a natural variation, or a different breed?

My Mr. has built me the awesomest brooder that will convert to a broody hen box, should I want to hatch eggs in the future.

:) Just wanted to share :)
