Has anyone heard of black combs showing up in either Australorps, Chantecler, or Wyandotte? I let some hens hatch out a batch of mutt chicks from our flock. I got a very unique chick that is from a single red combed Australorp hen. It is solid black, has very dark black shanks, black eyes, black beak and nails, and a black rose comb with no pink at all. The only roosters I have that carry a rose comb gene are either red/black laced Wyandotte, or Partridge Chantecler. Anyone know where this black comb gene could have come from? I'll post a picture if I can get one.
