how do i get mud balls off her toes?

You can use soak them until they come off or crack them off with some pliers, just squeeze until they shatter.

I once visited a coop where the hens had been running around in mud and fairly neglected. They had mud balls on their claws the size of walnuts. Many of them could barely walk. I found a hammer laying around and just smashed the balls. They crumbled and fell off.

Last spring I picked up 4 black stars and thought they had bumble feet or something. I even took pictures and posted them. I felt silly when I found out it was mud

I'm glad you knew what was wrong.

soak the toes, and peel it off GENTLY...once it is all off, put some scarlett oil or neosporin on the feet if they are cracked or anything..
