How do I know when my chicken is no longer broody?

    Hi All,

    I have one of my girls who has been showing signs of broodiness on and off for a few weeks. She started to get really bad, hissing and pecking me if I ventured near the nest boxes. I decided to put her in a broody box, simply because she wasn't allowing the other chooks to enter the coop to lay their eggs.

    I am new to all this and wondered how I will know when she can come out of the broody box. She has only been in there a day and is still pacing up and down. Although, she isn't making the horrific racket she was making this morning! I have read that it should be around 3 days, is this correct? Or is there particular signs to look out for? I can't wait to get her out to be honest, I don't like seeing her in solitary. :/

    3 days may be about right if she's in a wire bottom cage where cool air can reach her bottom. If she can lay down and keep it warm she may stay broody.
