How do you get rid of chicken mites?

My chickens have mites, how do I get rid of the mites?

It depends on what kind they have- what are you seeing? Mites vs lice, and their location...

brownish red tiny bugs that look like a flea or aphid on their skin and their feathers are falling out. Mainly on their bottom and rib areas.

Lice- pyrethrin powder or carbaryl powder (sevin) will kill them- powder twice, two weeks apart. Then check each month- and retreat as needed.

The only thing I use and it gets rid of everything is frontline spray. Only use the stuff for puppy's and kittens though. Put on tiny spray on the back of the neck, one under each wing, and one above the vent (not on the vent) In two days...no more of any bugs on ur chicken

It sounds like Northern fowl mites, That's what I had here and they are now all gone

and the birds are happy again.​

So if your chicken is shaking it's head like crazy, does that mean it has ear mites? Or something similar?

If you hang this in the chicken house it keeps the mites away.....works great and you don't have to put chemicals on the birds. Large areas need more than one.
