How do you go about introducing ducklings to water?

I have two Indian runner ducklings one is five days old, the other is two days old. They haven't been introduced to water as I wasn't sure of the correct method and because they both had stressful hatches and have taken longer to recover. I was hoping to introduce them but wanted to know how others have gone about it, thank you in advance

As long as they have access to shallow water and you are there to supervise them they will take to it on their own terms. The worst possible thing you could do would be force them into it when they are not ready.

So would you recommend that a put a small water dish in the cage and leave them to it? And I'll keep a close eye to make sure no accidents happen

You can but the will make such a mess of their cage that way that I always introduce them to water outside.
