Hi, I don't know if this is the right form or not. When I first started with chickens, I had 2 roos and 2 hens given to me, the lady that gave them to me had no idea how old they were. Is there any way to tell about how old a chicken is? And how old is too old to eat? We're thinking about culling one of the roos for dinner.

How old is to old to eat,? Depends on how you wish to cook them. If fried/grilled you want them young (about 4 months), crock pots are for old tough birds, or chicken and "feather dumplings", other soup/s,,,
How long are the spurs on those boys? Shorter is younger, long is older, they take time to grow. Of course an old guy can break one or both off, or they could have been removed/shortened by a PO.

Sorry it took so long, leaving for vacation in a few days, and I've been busy. The pics aren't real good they're kind of skittish. I don't let myself get attached to what I'm gonna eat, LOL !
