Yes, there are alot of folks willing to make that sacrifice to ensure that their beloved pet gets to live out a good life, but as stated, I would feel so guilty...like I took advantage of someone to get free roosters. Although that may not be the case, I would still feel that way.

I would too if someone drive 12 hours to give me 2 roosters. You could pay him the cost of the petrol. I see your point ..12 hours is a lot of traveling. I do admired his willingness to do for his roosters.

I drove 4 hours return trip to take my hens to the vets to get implant because the price is much cheaper and this Vet is kind and help rescue chickens.

I drove 10 hours to buy some Lavender EE a couple years ago. And last year I drove about about 6 hours to buy Ameraucana chicks from Cackle hatchery on the other end of the state in July. One way. Google Maps lies about how long it takes to drive anywhere in MO bc of the hills and the curves. And I'm going to do it again in April.

I guess it just depends on the person. To get what I want I'd go out of state. I have to drive 30 minutes to get basic groceries so several hours further for my livestock is nothing.

1) Yep. I feel this. 2) Wow, I envy the options some folks have here! Like the post above, a 40 min drive is groceries for me. Driving an hr+ to get poultry is a given.

At the heart of it, it's your business. You & the birds kept safe is the bar. Beyond that you've got this life and maybe it needs an Ayam Ketawa in it. Because maybe your neighbors did something to deserve waking to the cackle of a madman at 4am every day. Who knows?

I like to drive and I like chickens so I wouldn't mind driving several hours to pick up some chickens I really wanted. I think transporting them via car is much easier on them than going through USPS or a shipping company.

You can always split it up. Make the drive, spend the night in a hotel near the pick up point, then pick up the chickens in the morning and drive home.

While 3 hours may be a long drive for 1chicken, if you were to pick up say SIX it would be perfectly reasonable
