How fresh of a sample do I need for a non avian vet to do a gram stain?

    I havent called them yet. they did a float test before>>>
    I am so concerned they all wont make it to even use the new chicken coop Hubby is building...

    I think that any stool sample being tested, should be fresh and should be samples of both regular and cecal droppings.
