Yes they can fly. Each bird is different but mine used to fly all around the yard. I always clipped their wings until I had trouble with predators and then I let them fly so they could at least try to get away from them. I had banties fly up and sleep in trees 35 ft tall.

Oh wow... ok... thanks! Good to know.... So I can't really let them out of the coop in the back yard to roam around then.... unless I"m gonna want to be climbing ladders to get them! Lol

Mine all free ranged, some came back to the house to sleep and some liked the trees better. Each chicken has its own personality, just like us. The girls liked the house better than the boys.
