How long do chickens live?

    I do believe (and I may be wrong) that it depends on breed and care. Heavier/meat type birds will live the least- like 1 to 2 years, and smaller/pet birds that are treated like pets live longer. Many years for most. I think I heard like 5-7 years is a good bet. Steph

    I have a buff orpington hen who is 10. But her 4 sisters died at younger ages so the average of that group is probably about 6. I have a white leghorn who is 7. So these are just some examples to let you know they can live quite a good long life.
