My Muscovy duck has been patiently sitting on a clutch of 12 eggs for about 40 days. She hatched one little duck September 11th. Sadly, when we woke up yesterday morning the duckling was gone. We don't know what happened to her. It was really, really sad as the mother duck was chirping all over the yard and I know she was looking/calling for her. She did get right back on her nest and is sitting on the rest of the eggs.

Is it too late? What are the chances of us getting another to hatch? Does the Mother duck know if she is sitting on eggs with life in them? Will she push the eggs out of the nest if they are dead?

the eggs are probably dead, she doesn't know if the eggs are alive or dead. i'd take the eggs away.

Can you candle them? Are some of the eggs a week younger than the others? If she started setting all the eggs at one time, they should have hatched within a few days of each other
