Most of mine take about 3 months. Some start up a bit sooner, some a bit later.

I've had them go 6-8 months before starting up again. Those particular hens will not be staying with us through another molt.
Keep in mind that the hens' nutrition should be great to help them recover faster. We feed Black Oil Sunflower Seeds to increase protein during molt. Although we don't baby our hens, we have been known to hand feed BOSS to favorite hens who are having a rough time with the molt. Sometimes the good layers need help to reconstitute their bodies.

Yes, I increase their protein as well. It' helps them regrow their feathers and get through the molt a bit faster.

    What are good protein sources?

Black Oil Sunflower Seeds (where would you get that? Any feed store?)
    Tuna?
    Cat food?

We had to <gasp> buy eggs at the grocery store for the first time in over a year. We got the chicks in April 2012.

I know. I'm so sad about mine too. And its my EE, so my beautiful blue eggs are gone!

I've started feeding BOSS (bought 50 lb bag at the feed store) and switched to nutrena Feather Fixer. I'm also feeding sardines every other day. (because for some reason, my husband bought like 20 cans of the stuff then decided he didnt like the brand! lol)
