how long does it take for chick to dry off under broody hen?

Hi all,

One of my chicks has hatched from my batch of eggs under a broody! I was just wondering how long will it take for the chick to dry off under the hen?

congratulations! it's so exciting when a hatch starts!

And although you probably can't wait to see them, my advice would be, be patient. My broodies usually keep them all under for the first day; some will hatch sooner than others and she wants to keep the humidity and temp right for all. The chicks will start peeking out when they are dry and fluffy and ready to face the world.

That peeping sound is so exciting, but l too, vote leave them be. People trying to be nice often interfere and disrupt the bonding process.
