I have one crossbilled hen in my flock. I considered "eliminating" her when I discovered her predicament as a chick. I had read about the feeding difficulties and low weight factors and wondered if it I wouldn't be doing her a favor. I'm glad I didn't. She's hanging in there and is quite aggressive as for as her competing for food but the other chickens will steal food right out of her beak. Only her top bill is crossed. She's not that much underweight compared to her chickmates. She's about four months old now. I am feeding wettened crumbles but plan on changing over to pellets. She doesn't like to be caught and sqawks bloody murder when you catch her and seems to forget that she will be fed special treats while I keep the other chickens at arms reach......or at least try to .......and she gladly accepts. Will she ever learn that being caught is a good thing for her. I plan on trying to make sure she gets her fair share. I've read about the early demise of similar hens. I was just wondering what are some of your experiences with special needs chickens and what are her chances.
