When do I switch my chicks to a regular chicken diet?
generally when they begin to lay, or as wattles and combs turn deep red indicating they are about to lay.
Some folks just feed the chick starter all the way to egg laying maturity. (if you are asking about egg laying breeds)
Others feed the starter for 8 weeks then switch them over to a Grower until egg laying maturity. Other people just use a Flock Raiser or All Flock type product and that is that.
These schedules on often printed right on the back of the Purina bags, for example.
There is a number of ways to go. Are your birds egg laying breeds or are they meat birds? That really needs to be answered first.
They are egg laying breed. Thanks for the info!
