Usually about 3 days after they hatch they will all leave the nest.

I've never had a hen stay beyond 2 days, they generally know which eggs are not going to make it.

Quote:True--most of the time. I had a BO hen this year that kept setting on the dud eggs and the three chicks that hatched starved/dehydrated and died. I was working long hours and the chooks were all on the roost when I got home. I had assumed that she was getting off during the day and planned to take the bad eggs out on the weekend (hadn't wanted to disturb the family at bed time) and my dd was scared of her 'cause she gets ornery when broody so she didn't want to do it. Anyhow, just wanted to share so you'll keep an eye out and make sure to remove any eggs that don't hatch after 24 hours or so. What happened with my broody is unusual so hopefully you won't have any problems.
