How long will chickens molt??????????

    My poor silkies started molting yesterday....will they lay will there molting????.....and will they be like bald????? [​IMG]

    Their laying will slow down when they molt. To speed up the molting, you can up their protein - try giving them cat food.

    Yeah I know, the cat food thing sounds weird to me too, but I guess it works.

    they are about two....they've never molted before i dont know what the deal is??????

    I think molting can sometimes last for several months [​IMG] At least that is what I have been reading. Sometimes it depends on your climate too. I'm not looking forward to mine starting that! Sometimes people say their birds loose ALOT of feathers and others say they didn't even notice any missing [​IMG] Can't wait to see what mine do.

    Don't some breeds get prettier after they molt the first time, though?
