...can a large fowl broody raise?

My Blue Copper Marans is hatching some bantam eggs for her first time. Right now she has 7 or 8 hatched and could have as many as 10 or 11 if all the ones that passed the float test hatch.

My local feed stores are getting their assorted bantams tomorrow (Wednesday) and I have been planning on going and trying to get a few particular breeds I'd like to have if they have them. Each store is getting 50, so I can't imagine I'll end up with more than ten, since the ones I want are rarer.

How many would be too many for a first time momma (if she accepts them)...given these are bantams they're a bit easier for her to cover them, but I don't want to overload her and risk the chicks.

Too bad I can't sex them, I'd give her all the boys and raise the girls inside myself. :)

I would say that she is probably close to her max. 10-12 of her chicks should be enough to keep her busy. :) I know that they CAN do more. I've seen as many as 20 LF chicks from a broody, but not all of them make it.
