the only time I have traveled out of Canada was to go to NC to the Coca Cola 600 I love NC and all the states between the border, I found the further south we went the more hospitable people were.

I was thinking the same thing .....lol
I was born in CANADA (have family, I visit there from coast to coast)
I live in USA
and have traveled through MEXICO (parent's live there in the winter)

I have traveled North America from coast to coast and from the Northwest Territories, down to almost Belize. (Mahual Mexico) I drove most of it!

BC is Beautiful. I was raised in Calgary, Alberta. It is a City known for it's Hospitality! especially around STAMPEDE! Starts the first Friday in July for 10 days. The city comes ALIVE! FREE activities and Breakfasts throughout the city at that time. and The Rodeo is Fantastic!

Indeed. Sometimes I think we'd be better off if it were a bunch of loosely affiliated separate countries....

When I was living abroad and confronted stereotypes about America, I would pretty much always say the same thing-- "Look, it's a very big place with dramatically different types of people in different regions. No generalization you make about the country as a whole is going to fit, because somewhere in the country you're going to find people who are the exact opposite of what you're talking about."

And then I moved back to Texas, and now when other Americans make comments about how Texans are all inbred backwoods hicks, I have to say "Look, it's a very big state with dramatically different types of people in different regions....."

I have been to Rome, Paris, and lots of places in the Caribbean. And, of course, I've been to Canada.

I think I liked Rome more than Paris because of the history and the architecture. People in Rome seem to live a much more slow-paced life than we do here. It was very relaxing. Paris was beautiful, but not as enchanting, maybe.

As far as the people and culture, I had good experiences in both cities. In both cities, I went off and did some exploring on my own or with a friend, so I wasn't stuck in a tour group the entire time. People were very polite and friendly for the most part; if they weren't friendly, they were just indifferent, which is fine.

The only bad experience I had overseas was with the Gypsies in Rome. I had heard bad things about them from other people who had traveled to Rome, but really don't like to stereotype people so I went with an open mind. Unfortunately, I did see a lot of the scam-type things they are stereotyped for going on there. I guess they are really considered low-class there and can hardly find work, though, because of the Italian attitude toward them, so I can see why they might have to do the scam sorts of things to get money. One example of a scam I saw was a Gypsy man walking up to a classmate of mine and asking her to stick out her finger. When she did, he quickly whipped out some embroidery thread and knotted it to her finger and began to braid a friendship bracelet. Then he said, 3 euros. We were like, what? No way, dude!

I've been to a few islands in the Caribbean but since it was as part of a cruise, I don't think I was there long enough to really think about the people and culture. It was beautiful, though, and they have all sorts of wild chickens running about...

Canada was awesome. Any place where you can buy hockey tape in a 7-11 store is awesome.

Ive traveled extensively in Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East and South America. My list is similar to Holly O's.

1.) All men are the same. Their cultures are different, that is all. I, like Michael Crichton, view all peoples as my fellow brothers and sisters.
My view is "When in Rome, do as the Romans," and always be a good guest.

3.) I would go back to many places. I would not be keen to go back to the Middle East, these days, except Israel.

I have only driven across the Canadian border, which doesn't really count, and traveled to a British island, which I really enjoyed, but wouldn't want to live there. I just really enjoyed the nature and scenery there. I'd love to go to Britain.
