Mine like the Happy Hen Dried Mealworms and they are about 2 weeks old. I hung a baby chick cake in their brooder, but they don't seem that interested in it. They were only mildly interested in finely chopped frozen strawberries (when it was seriously hot out.)

Quote:I got a few small meal worms for my chicks when they were about a week or week and a half old.

They also liked to pick at watermelon. Seedless seemed to be ok.

At three weeks they were going after the big fat mealworms like crazy. [IMG]

At four or five weeks they were loving zucchini also.

I've been giving mine mashed hard-boiled eggs since they were about 3 days old. It's like a shark feeding frenzy. If you want a laugh, give them some of that.

my chicks are not even a week old, and are outside with momma all the time.

is there anything I should not feed them at a young age. ?
    Thanks

So far, I haven't heard of anything that the chicks absolutely shouldn't have (other than the stuff that the adults shouldn't have, like onions, avocado, etc...), though some people have recommended limiting their veggie intake. I guess it can give them the runs? I only gave them the eggs as a treat for the 1st couple of weeks, then I gave them some mealworms. At 3 weeks, I gave them some green leaf lettuce. They loved it! They've showed no interest in fruits of any kind yet. A friend suggested catching some ants for them, which I did at a week old. It was fun to watch, but I don't think they ate a single one.
