how old?

    how old does a hen need to be too start laying eggs and should I feed them layer feed before they start laying ?

    I usually wait until they are laying. Depending on the breed most start laying between 5-7 months old.

    Depending on the breed depends on when they start. My Red Stars started at 16weeks, where my other hens took until 5-6mts I started them on laying feed at 16weeks just because of my red stars. Now when I raise up chicks at 12weeks or so they get integrated into the coop and get put on layer. I start mixing the feed at 10weeks.
