How rare is the Black Sumatra

I have heard that they are rare, but I am not sure. Could anyone answer my question?

Depends what you mean. You can order them from just about every hatchery, so in that sense they are not rare. But those aren't well bred birds. Well bred ones are harder to find, but you can find hatching eggs for them pretty reliably.

They are on the Livestock Conservancy's watch list, so there is that.

I have one. My husband liked her feathering and we got her not knowing her breed. She is my more flighty bird and lays small white eggs. She is currently fostering a baby chick for me too.

Nice, the reason I was asking is that I just ordered 3 straight run Black Sumatras Friday, I am allowed to have roosters were I live, so I won't worry if I get roosters. They are from mypetchicken.

I have hatched a good amount of them in the last few months.

When you have them please post a picture! We got mine at about a year old so I think that is she is a little on the flighty side, butnthey are beautiful chickens and she laid really really well through the winter.
