How to hold hen without breaking egg inside

    My hens will be laying soon. I heard somewhere that if you hold them the wrong way you can break the egg developing inside them. Anyone know how to hold them and avoid that?

    I don't think you have to worry about hurting them... unless you're flogging them or swinging them around by their feet. Normal handling is not going to hurt them... That being said, when it's obvious that a pullet/hen is in the mood to lay, it's best to leave her alone and let her complete the task, and not to rush her out of the nest box until she's good and ready to leave it.

    Ok. We hold them quite gently anyway. They're guinea fowl and guinea fowl are tough so I guess it should be alright. But any more ideas would be helpful.

    I hold mine in my arm in the football carry position.
