I have searched the internet but can't seem to find a recipe for SIMPLE homemade frosting. Today is my mom's birthday and I am making her a cake but I forgot the frosting! [IMG]

I just take powdered sugar, melt half a stick of butter, add a tablespoon of milk and either a dash of vanilla or a tbs of chocolate powder and mix it all together.

Keep adding powdered sugar and stirring till it is of the consistency I want. It does take at least a pound of powdered sugar though.

Our recipe (for one 13 x 9 cake):
Stick of butter, cream it until soft. Add three cups of powdered sugar, more or less depending on taste, and two tablespoons of milk. Cream together for a minute or so until its one creamy mass (add more milk if its too thick) add flavoring and/or food coloring, blend well. [IMG]
ETA: These are approximate measurements, I make all of my frosting by sight only, if the amounts look about right, they're right. [IMG] Sorry if its a bit vague.

This is one of our favorites....

    Glossy Chocolate Frosting
    Mix together:
    1 cup sugar
    1/4 cup cornstarch
    5 tablespoons cocoa
    1/2 tablespoon butter
    1/2 teaspoon salt

Stir in 1 cup boiling water and cook over medium heat until thick and bubbly, add 1/2 stick of butter and 2 teaspoons vanilla.

    Microwave instructions:

Mix dry ingredients in a large microwave safe bowl.

Heat water to boiling in microwave and add to dry ingredients. Beat with a wire wipe.

Cook 1 minute on high in microwave and stir well.

Cook 1 more minute on high and stir well.

Cook 30 seconds longer and stir well.

Add 1/2 stick butter and 2 teaspoons vanilla, stir well.
