I was wanting to add a ladder to the bottom of the coop so they have access to outside area. I'm turning a chicken tractor into a permanent coop. I'm adding a sleeping area/coop on top of the tractor and want to add a ladder to access the bottom area. How could I do this without the shavings falling out of the coop area and into the pen? I'm trying to think of a somewhat "mess free" idea but I keep hitting a wall lol. Any photos would be appreciated also! Thanks

Build a little wall made of 2X6s (On edge)around the opening in the floor. That should keep your shavings where you want them.

How big should the hole be? It's for my Silkies. Should I start the ladder at the top of the wall or at the base of the coop within the "wall"? I hope I said that right so your not confused lol

If it were me I would cut the hole in a good spot, frame it with 2x4 or 2x6 on edge ooround the opening and then run the ladder up to the top of the 2x6.
