How to sex a chicken

Does anyone know how to tell a rooster from a hen when they are just born?

other than vent sexing some chicks are sex-link so color would be the next way.

Pic's??? Breed??? There are a number of very knowledgeable people on this forum who may be able to look at a really good pic and tell you one way or another what you may have.

You could always ask the chick...

You might try reading the first post in this thread. It gives three ways to sex chicks at hatch that I know of that works and the science behind them. Others may tell you how to do it otjher ways, but I have yet to see a scientific reason why any of thise might work. You will notice that all three of these ways require the parents to have certain genetics. They don't work with just any chicks.

Vent sexing is a fourth way, but that requires training and experience. I don't even try.
