How to tell a male from female chick is easy. Wait about 8 weeks - you'll know for sure thereabouts.

There are two other certain ways:
    1. Sex them at birth although that can be dicey, even for experts.
    2. Employ sex link traits, so the chicks display coloration particular to male or female.

Amberlinks: The DEKALB AMBERLINK is a brown egg layer, mainly white- with some brown feathers. After having been away from the US market for several years, she is back by popular demand! She is the bird of choice for alternative production methods. She is very adaptive to non-cage operations with her excellent livability, her beautiful full brown egg color and ability to keep her feathers well throughout the lay.

Amberlink Chickens are hybrids, white and pale apricot feathers, prolific layers, friendly and easy to handle.

I am so woefully bad at sexing. I have to wait til it lays an egg or crows.

Amberlinks are sex links, but of what? They are being sold by hatcheries at the moment, pullets the main focus.
Since they are hatchery pullets, the sex-link connection does you and I little good.

What are they hybrids of and how would you breed your own, were you inclined?
    I couldnt learn that.

Well, if someone could figure out how to get hens to only lay eggs with pullets in them, they'd make a load of cash.
