I moved my five week old chicks out to their coop today, all are feathered except one. He’s a surprise chick I got from the hatchery, I’m guessing he’s a dark Brahma(and assuming he’s a he). Attached is a photo of him when he was younger, at the moment he’s probably 2/3 feathered out. So the average nightly temps at the moment are around 65, but next week the night temp will be down into the 50’s, so I added a heat lamp for him to stay warm. When they were in their brooder inside I was using a heat plate which they stopped using weeks ago but the temp in my house was never below 75. How do I wean them from the heat lamp when he feathers out? Or is there a better way to keep him warm until then? I’m nervous to keep the heat lamp in my coop for too long because of the fire hazard.
** added a photo of him right now, is this enough feathers to be without heat?
