How was your ebay egg hatching process?

I'm looking on ebay for Black Copper Maran eggs and I'm looking at all the different sellers and some right off the bat are a no because of egg color and coloring of the hens. But I found one that is also a member of the Marans of American Club breeder. Has anyone purchased from Thom Dean, if so how was egg quality, packaging, and how many of your order hatched? Were you happy with the quality of chickens?

I ordered off of Ebay and didn't do so well. The seller promised to package my eggs well, but did not use nearly enough bubble wrap, only one thin piece per egg, and the rest paper wads. So, 1/2 were broken on arrival. Secondly, I got dirty eggs. Third, they weren't very dark at all. I did one rooster out of the hatch, the wrong color. Probably just my luck. But, I haven't had the spare change to take the gamble again.

I would recommend joining the Marans club before ordering from anyone. Talk to them and get to know your seller. There are good people on that board that really do want you have success hatching your chicks. Also, the closer the seller is to you the better off are because they won't have to ship so far. Don't forget to let your new eggs set for 24 hours before putting them in the incubator.

I have ordered eggs from Gabbard Farms (Julie3810) on eBay several times and have had great luck............... Her Black Copper Marans were very dark...... I found them through the Marans Club...... my hatches from them have always been good.. I am in New Mexico. they are in Arkansas... all went well.. no breaks................ I don't know if she has any Black Coppers on eBay right now.. but her website is www.GabbardHatchingEggs.com...... My chickens are beautiful..... I love them..............

my problem is it seems all the Black Copper Marans breeders are in the midwest our or east side and i'm in Washington state none seem close to me. I'm think i like thomdean46 eggs he is also a registured breeder with Marans of America Club.

I purchased some of thomdean's cochins who he claimed were show quality, but they were not. They were at most pet or hatchery quality. They were between the size of my show quality cochins and a bantam cochin.

I ordered austrolorps and welsummers from julie at gabbard farms actually won an auction for the welsummers and didn't win an auction for the lorps but she gave me a great price on the lorps and shipped them together not one broken egg and a great hatch rate I'd say about 70% I'm very pleased with the results

I started to order from ThomDean, but I started seeing inconsistencies in the wording of his auctions. I look for little discrepancies and pay close attention to feedback before I buy. Anyway some of his auctions said all his fbcm were from imported lines and then another auction said they were directly from the wade jean line. Is he selling two different lines in separate auctions or just making it sound really good? Anyway I decided not to order them. Good luck on your decision.

Edited to add I ordered mine from Julie 3810, they are due to hatch on sunday, but I only have 4 viable eggs out of 7 left and fingers seriously crossed for them.
