Just wanted to say hello! Stumbled across this site the other night while looking for coop designs. When I was growing up we raised chickens and now that I have two kids of my own I'd like to build memories such as the ones I have from my childhood. It was my job to look after the flock and gather their eggs everyday. I'm sure I have much to learn with it being 30 years since I've looked after a flock.Looking forward to filling this brain of mine with a ton of knowledge. I do know that my family's intent of this is only to use these precious birds for eggs, nothing else.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined the flock! If you have any questions feel free to ask. Do you have an idea on what breeds you're looking for?

Hi and welcome to BYC - good to have you join us. I'm sure it won't take long to get back into the chicken groove and it's great that you've decided to recreate your childhood experience for your own kids. It's one they will never forget.

    All the best

Welcome to BYC. I think you will find the Learning Center makes a great refresher course in 'chickenry' - I make up my own words.

I grew up with Rhode Island Reds so I might start with them. Haven't really looked into other breeds. Any reccomendations?

Rhode Island Reds are a good breed. I recommend Black Australorps. Docile, friendly, amazing egg layers, and can make great meat birds.
