Today I heard my roosters going crazy. ( I have 9, 4 our new, they were the ones that warned me) anyway ran outside to see what appeared to be a hawk in my coop fighting one of my roosters! He was inside the actual coop not the run. And it's a small area not the bigger area that's half a acre I recused these 4 2 wks ago with two hens and I keep em separated until they get use to each other through the fence. Anyway I ran up on it he was stuck, saw me approach and freak out b4 he few out. He was big I'm 5'6 his wing span plus body was almost as long as me I have CD up in part of my coop, the main coops are covered but the run is not but has bushes I ordered 2 owl decoys and will set up more cds anything more suggestions would be gr8. Is it normal for a hawk to swoop dwn on a small area with roosters?

Wow! That's a big bird. I read other stories of hawks flying right into coops to go after chickens, so yes it happens.
Could you post pictures of your coop and run where you are keeping your chickens? I think protecting against aerial attack is the most difficult without complete enclosure (roof covered predator proof run).

You will need to move the owl around often or it will become ineffective. If it turns its head it will be more effective. The CDs need to be moved around as well,,,

I worked at TVG, they put one of these owls on the top of the building (dual purpose as it also had a camera in it). After just 2 weeks birds were roosting on it.
Good luck!!

Can you put a heavy duty net over the area?

My neighbors had a hawk get into their coop and it terrorized the chickens. They put up a net--no more issues.

Some of these birds are huge. We just don't know it because we don't see them that close often.

I have a big area for them I can see about making it smaller might irritate the husband after he bought all that fencing.

Since I've taken this pic ive added twine with two owls old cds and yes banner flags. ‍♀️
