my neighbors are elderly and are so sweet. they let me use their kennel as a chicken coop. well when i went over to ask them a question they told me that my chickens whom i let run free for the past 2 or 3 months have been going under their gazebo. so tonight i went to go check on the chickens and went to look under the gazebo and i found a army of eggs! every time i took 2 or 3 eggs out the leaves behind them would expose 4 more eggs. sofar i have gotten out 12 or so eggs. all bad because of the cold weather and them being outside for who knows how long! They are all brown so that means my rhode island red has been hard at work! i have a Jersey giant hen also but i thought they laid white eggs? do they? but anyways i have lots of work to do tomorrow afternoon when i get home from school! haha. i counted about 8 more eggs that i had to get but it was wet and cold outside so i left them.

i found a huge white egg outside though..... maybe i have a chicken that is hiding.... hmmm. what color do black sex links lay? it wasn't the normal size egg. kinda leaning towards jumbo. (kinda-

BSL's lay brown eggs

sounds like your on an early easter egg hunt...Get those girls back into the coop for a few days with no outside play so they will learn to lay in your nest boxes

oooh. ok thank you. haha. i will look at the egg closer. is it possible that the cold or rain could have made the color dissipate?

Not likely - the color is a result of pigmentation. Cyn was speaking figuratively when she mentioned the *paint factory* being out of whack.

However, if the eggs were outside in the cold, odds are they are fine. Some may yet hatch, and the lot of them are probably edible.

thank you
