    Hi guys,
I have a 2 week old chick and one of her eyes is hurt. I think maybe another chicken pecked it or maybe it got scratched but it's been like that for a week now. I first noticed it because the eye was crusted shut. Every morning I take her inside and damp a paper towel with warm water and I wipe away the crust and then for the rest of the day she can keep the eye open. But just now I went to close them in for the night and it was crusted shut again. I wiped it with my finger and I smelled it for infection and it does kinda have an odor. What should I do for her?

Where did the chick come from? Have you noticed any nasal drainage, sneezing, or noisy breathing that might be an indication of a respiratory infection? MG and coryza can cause eye drainage and swelling, and coryza can have a very bad odor. But odors are common in other types of infections, and one from a peck could probably do that. I would go to your local feed store and buy either some Vetericyn eye gel or eyewash, or some Terramycin eye ointment to apply twice daily into the eye. Ask the clerk if you don't see it on the shelf. If you see symptoms of a respiratory disease, you may want to start some Tylan or oxytetracycline antibiotics.

No she doesn't have any nasal drainage or anything like that... It is actually better than it was a week ago because it used to be where she couldn't keep it open at all. Now she can keep it open all day after I clean it up. But I will definitely go and try to find that eye wash stuff. I have had experience with vetricyn before and it works really good
