Hi, I am a newbie to the forum and chickens and have been reading intensely others posts to help me identify this lovely lady. All they told me at the rural store was she was a hybrid and she is 13wks old now. She is one of four chickens I got at the same time (the rest to follow). Her black companion is definitely a rooster and she looks very different to him, brown chest, thinner legs, smaller comb. What do you guys think?

I would guess Black Sex Link if she is an egg laying hybrid from a feed store... most hatcheries seem to just call them black sex links or Black Stars (unlike the red sex links which seem to have a hundred names).

thanks for the reply, do you think she is a female? I was told they all would be female but I have my doubts on two of them which I will post separately.

The black ones are 13 wks, the browns are 11wks. This is my other black one (Blade) which I think is a male.

Not great photos, need to get a better one of him. What is the thing on the beak, none of the others have that?

If they are first generation sex links (that is what the feed store said they were?) they should be females by the color (male blacks are barred usually and male reds are mostly white), they do look right. Does Blade have a peacomb or is it just the pictures, looks like a bsl otherwise, does have red on the chest? You might want to get a better picture of that sore and post it on the Emergencies forum

Thanks, this is really helpful. This is a better picture if blades head with sore, I will put it on the emergency forum

Better pics would sure help, but I think both black birds are female, probably black sex links. The red bird on the left could be a roo with that uneven coloring, but again better pics well help be sure.
