    Hi all,

We just got our first chicks this past Thursday. We started with 15 chicks but we’ve lost two. It makes me so sad! We also have a little girl who is having some pain in her leg and doesn’t get around much. I’m not sure what to do with her (any suggestions appreciated).

We have silver laced and golden laced wyandottes, americanas, tetra Browns, buff Orpington and australorps.

I live on 20 acres with my husband and our three kids (2 girls, 1 boy), and our two dogs. The guys like motor sports and us girls like animals. Hoping to have more variety (of species) in the future.

Welcome to BYC! Sorry for the loss of your two chicks. Sadly that is just something that happens oftentimes when you are new to raising chickens. Sorry not sure what to say about the injured chick you mentioned, I recommend writing a separate post about that. You have to learn the hard way as you go, but soon you will be a chicken expert before you know it! Good luck to you and the rest of your chicks and enjoy your time at BYC (AKA Backyard Chickens):)

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.
