hello! I am new to this site and can’t wait to get my hands on the wealth of knowledge available here. In my adult life, I am a Wife, mother of 3 and an ICU nurse. In my delusioned “spare time” I like to ride horses and have discovered my new obsession: CHICKENS!

I bought my first 6 Rural King pullets (silver and gold laced Wyandottes) 6 months ago. One died by cat the first day, but the other 5 (my spice girls) were thriving! As they got older I started noticing one bigger and feathering differently than the others. lo and behold, I lost my “spice girls” and Roo-Paul was named. As they got bigger, my chicken fever got worse.

2 weeks ago I went and bought an Ayam Cemani hen and cockerel. I fell in love with their picture and what research I was able to do. I drove 2 hours to pick up my 2 new birds and when I got home, I showed my new treasures to my husband and kids....along with the 3 chicks I snagged too. 2 were another breed I had fallen in love with (Vorwerk)...needless to say, chicken Matt is real!!!

I look forward to learning as much as I can and expanding my obsession into SOMETHING productive! Can’t wait to get to know everyone as well!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
