They are sweet!! I was a little leery about getting her as the only other Polish I had owned was a White Crested Black rooster that was the spawn of Satan and I had to give away for free because I couldnt even sell him for $2 at a swap meet. I sure hope I can find another little hen. There arent many people around here with pure breed chickens.

Most of the chicken ads I see on craigslist that are for "purebred chickens" I look at and it's like, uhhhh......not quite. lol

Oh you poor thing!

I have a Polish hen and I know how sweet they can be. They way they have their own little personalities, and how they always seem to want to be with you. I only hope that you can remember your lovely hen as time passes.
It's just awful that your husband can't understand how much that lovely little lady meant to you.
When I almost lost my Polish hen to a hawk I was so scared. I had only been a few yards away and I turn around and a hawk was descending upon her. It was a miracle that I got there in time.

I hope you feel better soon!

Just know that your lovely lady had a wonderful life, thanks to you.

Thanksgiving would come often, say three times a month.

I feel for you. I would totally cry if something happened to my Henny Penny. She is a barred rock about 6 weeks old and from the day I brought all my chicks home from the feed store she was the most curious and friendly off all the breeds. Now that she is older and in the coop when I go out to visit the chickens she runs out, jumps up on my knee and flies up to my head. Then she sits on my shoulder or on my head and plays with my hair. Chickens can be so sweet and friendly so just like any pet it hurts to lose them.

I agree with what someone else said though. If you like your turkeys don't get rid of them. Just fix the fence and hopefully this problem won't happen in the future. I have two week old silkie babies in the brooder box and I thought I would let them out scratch around since the weather was nice. As soon as I set them down my other 6 week old pullets started pecking them - including my sweet Henny Penny. I think your turkey was protecting his territory.

I hope you can find another polish or maybe you could incubate some? My polish are not sweet. I have two and they are very skittish and don't like to be handled. Maybe you can find some polish eggs on e-bay. I ordered silkie eggs on there and they are 10 days in the incubator now and most are developing. Hugs.

I too have a husband who just doesn't understand why animals can be so important to me. why when my dog who Ive raised for 15 yrs dies and Im upset for days and miss him.. of course every time he says some thing about my animals, I dislike his mother that much more. she never allowed pets of any kind, they had a hunting dog and when he got old can couldn't tree anymore. gone.... not even fish. he cant even find enjoyment and relaxation in a beautiful fish tank.. very frustrating an I understand where your are coming from and hope you can bet a new sweety soon. and of course the turkey are looking at you " LIKE WHAt?' "what did we do?"...
Life on the farm.. its harder than people think and not just the physical work aspect of the farm./
blessed be )O(
