Almost 5 months ago I moved to Lugoff, SC, from Sonoma, CA. I've always wanted farm life & found a great oppty here. I finally get to work w chickens! (Also horses, goats & peafowl.) It's hard physical work, there are no weekends,wake-up time is dawn & bedtime is before 9pm...and I love it.
I've been breeding & showing dogs for 30+ years & my eye for confirmation has transferred with me. I came here to a bunch of chickens...mostly PB, & some fancies who were rescued. My hen pen has a few ameracaunas & mostly barred rocks & red sex-links.
Before I moved here I researched all I could about chix. I ESPECIALLY LOVED this group as you contributed a vast amount to my learning. That being said, the 5 months I've been dealing w them offerred a more empirical education. I also have 2 good mentors that I so appreciate.
I've now fallen in love w two new breeds: ameracaunas & BC marans. I am hoping to be adding these as soon as I can.
