...And wouldn't you know, it's been raining all day

My satellite t.v. bill was pushing $80.00 a month and since spring has arrived (I think it has... it was in the 40's last night) we just don't sit around enough to justify that monthly expense.

The kids are going a little stir crazy but thanks to their cell phones (which was NOT my idea to give them) and the internet they will live. The idea is to get them outside more than they were. Too bad we need this rain SOOO bad.

Hope this works. I too miss my DVR with all of my movies and gardening/DIY shows saved on them.

Wow - good for you! I've been toying with this idea for a couple of months - since it's warmer and the days are longer we hardly watch TV. It's nearly betime by dark and I read a lot anyway. Plus it seems now you can watch almost everything on the internet anyway. Good for you!! Books are good for rainy days...

We haven't had TV in about 10 years. We had the satellite cut off when my then 14 yr old son couldn't get his homework done. I waste enough time as it is, I would never get anything done if we had TV. We do still own a tv and occasionally watch a movie on vhs or dvd. Maybe one every month or so. We live way out in the country and don't get any local reception, we took down the antenna when we got our satellite.

All afternoon I've been watching Miracle Planet on cable.

I could do without a TV... and even the Internet, but they enrich my life.

I know it's cold but we really need the rain too. My husband bought us an antenna this January so we get PBS and the major network channels and then 45. That's an option for you. I think the antenna was about 40 dollars and he hooked it up to the cable wiring so we can use any tv that's in the house. We have one downstairs and one upstairs.

It will get easier as time goes on.
I have a few friends with no televisions.
and a few like me, who have tv's but no cable. we have bunny ears (and now that new digital converter box)

I turned off my cable 4 years ago. I just don't watch enough TV to justify spending that amount of money. I got some bunny ears ,so I could watch PBS, news and maybe a few network shows every once in a while. I have my computer, so i'm not completely lost;)

It works for me. I watch about two hours a week at the most. If I feel like watching, I go over and turn it on and see if there's anything I like. If not, I watch a DVD.
I don't know what it's like for someone with kids, but I do live alone, and nobody that I know who lives alone does so without a TV and cable. Do your kids like board games? Y'all could have some awesome board-game marathons on those rainy days!

You could try netflix or hulu if there's something you really want to watch. Both stream video right to the computer, and it's really convient. We still have ours, but only as it's bundled with phone, net tv and something else, a buy 3 get 1 free deal. If we canclled it would cost more to buy the other 3 seperate.

I admire your will power. I live so far out in the country that I'd have a difficult time being at home alone so much without it.
