So I stopped by this yard sale and I found this book!

It is a hard backed copy OF "THE AMERICAN STANDARD OF PERFECTION"

It has on the first page - Printed and Published for The American Poultry Association 1898

It was owned by a guy by the name of James Reager and he purchased it May 31 1899

It has pictures and graphs of all kinds of chickens it is a really neat book.

Has anyone everheard of this \\book or would know what it might be worth?

O.K. I'm going to go do some reading!

[IMG] Good find! I don't know what that edition would be worth today, you might have to take it to a book/antique dealer and have it appraised. The Standard is the bible for poultry enthusiasts and breeders, telling us the bodily specifics of each breed, what are disqualifications, etc. There are multiple editions. I checked a copy out at the library last year, very interesting.

    Quote:What an AWESOME idea!

There is one of the really early editions that is supposed to be THE edition to have if you want an antique version. Not sure which year, though. I think it is supposed to have particularly good drawings and graphics.

The main thing you need to consider if you are using it for its intended purpose is that some standards have changed over the years and MANY breeds and varieties have been added.

Freaking cool! I work in an Antique Store and can tell you its mostly worth what you can get out of it, lol
We sell used books for Glover's Bookery in Lexington. He might buy it, or you will probably have the best bet auctioning it off on here (best market) or on Ebay.
