I have a sad sussex

Hi BYC people

My sussex went broody. I put an egg under her that didn't hatch ( not fertised). At the 3 week mark I received some day old chicks and swapped the egg for the chicks.. I was told by a friend with chickens this may work.. but it seems my sussex will not have bar of these intruders and is still sulking on her nest. not coming out of the coop very often..
Is there anything I should be doing?

It's better if you wait 'till evening when the hen is sleepy before you swap her egg(s) for chicks. She probably won't remember and will accept the chicks in the morning. Hope it works for you!

Do you mean that the hen has rejected the chicks, or that she is sitting on them on the nest still?
