I have a Sick chicken please advise

I have a 2yr old Red Hybrid type of chicken. She stopped laying a couple months ago. Her last egg was a giant egg with no yolk. She has lost a lot of weight so her breast bone is protruding otherwise. I’ve noticed her looking a bit off a few days ago, a bit scruffy but acting normally. yesterday, I noticed she was lethargic, puffed up and sick. I thought she had had an impacted crop but this morning the crop was soft and small. I massaged it she would expel a brownish liquid from her beak. i gave her water with electrolytes and digestive enzymes in it plus some hard boiled egg, yogurt this morning and she’s picking on. She didn’t come out of the coop this morning but got up there last night but didn’t roost. What should I do with her? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

All of her symptoms point to a chronic infection that may be very far along and therefore difficult to treat - egg yolk peritonitis. Or cancer.

If you can obtain an oral antibiotic, you can give it a try. Any leftover human prescription will work, or ask at feed stores for amoxicillin.

Thank you, I’m thinking that too. She’s feeling better now and wants to drink and eat the egg/ yogurt but she throws up the water. but it’s helped because she’s pooped a little and her comb has come up again. I’ll try to get an antibiotic. I’ve been massaging her crop too.

Production bred birds like the red hybrids are horrible for being prone to this sort of thing, at least in my experience. Ive owned countless production reds over the years and every one of them except two have been lost to reproduction issues around the two year mark. Hopefully you can get those antibiotics into her and she'll improve for you. Good luck!

yesterday She didn’t move day, didn’t eat or drink but pooped. I thought she wasn’t going to make it but this morning she got up with tail up, ate, drank, pooped, ate calcium, grit and even greeted me nicely. Hopefully she will continue to improve.
