My gold spangled hamburg, who used to lay very light cream eggs, has gone trans! LOL she’s always been growing a spur, but now her comb has gotten Huge!

It is usually a reproductive disorderwe are in trouble if chickens are doing like frogs and randomly changing genders lol
Sometimes too, besides the reproduction problems, when you dont have a roo a hen will take on the role of rooster even so far as growing spurs, comb and not laying. That wont make her fertile though
I used to have a rooster like this. He would do everything the hens would do, even lay in nesting boxes. Ovary* female birds only have one functional ovary -the left one.I'd say damaged ovaries too - and would be surprised if she ever lays again.
She hasn’t layed in a while, only a couple of times since we lost over half the flock to a weasel. No males right now.
