I wasn't feeding him just worms or ants by the way. I hadn't been able to get him the proper duck feed due to certain circumstances, so I was feeding him various greens and mashed rabbit pellets in water. I had already called up SPCAs in the area, but they only took domestic animals, and there are no rehabilitation centers in my area. But none of that matters now......he's gone and thankfully his misery wasn't stretched out. Thank you.
While you may have expanded the list of foods, none of that was still making up an appropriate diet for the little guy. We understand not having the appropriate feed on hand, but - unfortunately - that does not change the fact that that is what is needed to sustain this type of little fellow. I am sorry he passed, but by the point he was at when you posted that was a fairly well forgone conclusion. If you encounter such a situation again the best thing is to be proactive and reach out for advice regarding feeding, care and ways to find the best resources in your location before it has become an emergency - even if/when you think you know what to do and what to feed it is always a good idea to confirm that by asking so that you can correct your plan if need be.
